Just the Facts, Ma’am
One of the main problems with the debate over Yucca Mountain in Nevada is that so much misinformation is thrown out there without being corrected. For example, the Nevada Appeal published a letter-to-the-editor from Richard Mundy today which asserted that “trains loaded with nuclear waste would currently travel through Las Vegas.”
Not.
In fact, the current approved rail transportation route would go through Caliente, far to the north of Las Vegas. And unlike Mr. Mundy, the residents of Caliente actually appear to WANT the shipments to come through their town, recognizing the significant economic benefits at minimal risk such shipments would bring to their rural community.
In addition, the alternative “Mina” rail route would drop down from northern Nevada and not come anywhere near Las Vegas, so Mr. Mundy’s assertion about nuclear waste trains traveling through Vegas is pure bunk.
Can’t we just stick to the facts?
