Reid Just Says “No” to $90 Billion for Nevada
In a surprise announcement today, the Department of Energy requested a $90 billion increase in its budget for Yucca Mountain. That’s right, the DOE is trying to force billions of dollars into the Nevada economy at a time when Nevada’s economy desperately could use a shot in the arm.
But have no fear, Dingy Harry is here!
“Today’s startling revelation that the Department of Energy now wants $90 billion for its fatally flawed Yucca Mountain mistake is both brazen and ridiculous,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said in a prepared, overblown and typically hyperventilated statement.
“We already know the science of Yucca Mountain doesn’t work, and now we have even more proof that the finances don’t either. I worked to cut another $100 million from the Yucca budget this year, and I won’t allow this $32 billion budget hike to hit our wallets. . . . The evidence that Yucca Mountain will never happen is growing by the day, and I will continue to do all I can to kill the proposed dump.”
That’s right. After forcing layoffs earlier this year of numerous, highly-paid scientists and technicians at Yucca Mountain through his $100 million budget cut, Harry Reid promises to block an additional $90 BILLION for this exciting and promising project which is crucial to the nation’s energy needs and its desire to free itself from dependency on Middle East oil.
And since we’re really into this whole “Yucca FACTS” thing, the fact is Harry Reid has no idea if the “science of Yucca Mountain” works or not. Then again, Reid couldn’t care less about the science of Yucca Mountain. Reid is only interested in the POLITICS of Yucca Mountain. His scientific opinions are about as valuable as my opinions on theology. In other words, they ain’t worth doodley-squat.
As for killing Yucca, contrary to Reid’s assertion otherwise, the evidence that Nevada will ultimately end up hosting Yucca DESPITE Reid’s opposition grow daily, including the fact that the licensing process is now in its final stages.
The Yucca Fact is, without Harry Reid’s blind opposition Nevada could potentially receive a gold mine of benefits for hosting the Chuck Muth National Nuclear Repository, Power Plant, Reprocessing Center and University at Yucca Mountain.
With him, Nevada will only get the shaft.
